Description

Matcha cookies are soft and chewy cookies. The matcha cookies recipe is a combination of goodness of matcha powder, butter, egg, all-purpose flour, white chocolate, and brown sugar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon matcha powder
  • ½ cup 100g unsalted butter
  • 5 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Dry Ingredients Preparation: In a bowl add all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and matcha powder. Sift all these ingredients to avoid lumps and attain a smooth consistency.
  2. Preparing the Brown Butter: Add butter to a saucepan and heat it on medium flame. Lower the temperature if needed. Stir the butter continuously to prevent the butter from burning. You will see butter will gently caramelize. When small milk solids start forming at the bottom, remove the butter from the heat and set it aside. In a separate bowl mix white sugar, brown sugar, and prepared warm brown butter. Make sure to add brown butter warm, not too hot. Stir in egg quickly to prevent curling into the mixture until well combined.
  3. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Mix the brown butter mixture with the powder mixture. Mix white chocolate chips into the mixture for the cookies. At this point, you can add any desired chopped nuts, or dried fruits if you want.
  4. Shape the Dough: I prefer to shape my dough into a ball shape with my hands, but you can shape it with the help of a scooper on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Gently press your cookies and flatten the cookies.
  5. Refrigerate the Cookies Before Baking: To prevent the cookies from spreading too much I prefer to refrigerate for 15 or 30 minutes before baking.
  6. Bake and Serve: Bake the cookies at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 13 to 15 minutes. While baking, check your cookies often to bake on to the bottom. Make sure to not serve these cookies too hot. Allow around 5 minutes to rest before serving!

Notes

  • Use high-quality matcha powder to attain maximum fresh flavor and color of matcha cookies.
  • Handle the butter carefully. Stir continuously to prevent burning and avoid heating the butter on a high flame. Low or medium flame is great for achieving the best results. Allow the butter to cool slightly before mixing it in brown sugar.
  • Put the cookies in the refrigerator to chill before baking. This will help to avoid the overspreading of cookies.
  • For a chewer cookie, slightly underbaked the cookies because as they cool down, they become firm. If you prefer crispier cookies then bake more.
  • To attain a chewer texture, whisk well your brown butter mixture and egg. This will help you to attain a light and chewy texture.
  • Check the oven temperature with the help of an oven thermometer. Check the temperature from time to time to not exceed 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • For a better presentation, dust the cookies with matcha powder.
