Description

The Chicken Philly recipe (cheesesteak sandwich), commonly known as the Philly Cheesesteak, originated in the lively city of Philadelphia. This legendary sandwich became popular because of its fantastic combination of tender chicken, sautéed peppers, onions, and gooey cheese, all wrapped in soft hoagie bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 /2 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 Portobello mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 chicken breasts, thinly sliced
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/3 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 white hoagie rolls
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 6 tablespoons avocado oil (or olive oil/canola oil/butter)
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/3 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 tablespoons mayo

Instructions

  1. Slice the Chicken _ Sharp knife is great to slice the chicken breast thinly and evenly. Handle the knife carefully to avoid cutting your fingers. Let the chicken cool before slicing.
  2. Season the Chicken _ The chicken slices should be put in a bowl. Add a small amount of garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Cook the Chicken _ Add three additional teaspoons of avocado oil to the skillet. Add the sliced chicken. Cook until golden brown and crispy. Stir in Worcestershire sauce well.
  4. Prepare the Veggies _ Thinly slice the yellow onion, red bell pepper, and half green bell pepper. Take out the bell peppers’ seeds. Cut the Portobello mushrooms into slices.
  5. Sauté the Veggies_ In the same skillet, add three teaspoons of avocado oil. Sauté the mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers together. To season, add garlic paste, salt, and black pepper. Sauté the vegetables until they are tender and have slightly changed color. Move the cooked vegetables into another bowl. It will take approximately 5-6 minutes.
  6. Combine Everything _ Put the cooked chicken back in the skillet with the vegetables. Mix all of the ingredients. Cook over a higher heat until the liquid evaporates completely. Add the chopped parsley and stir.
  7. Melt the Cheese _ Divide the cooked mixture in half in the skillet. Arrange three provolone cheese slices of each half. Cook chicken steak and cheeseuntil the cheese melts.
  8. Prepare the Hoagie Rolls _ Cut to open the white hoagie rolls. Melt two tablespoons of butter over medium-heat. To enhance taste and color, firmly press the hoagie buns inside the skillet and put them aside.
  9. Assemble the Sandwich and Serve _ Spread two teaspoons of mayo on each hoagie roll. Using a spatula, load each roll with the chicken cheesesteak mixture. Enjoy! Serve your chicken Philly cheesesteak by cutting it diagonally, dishing it out, and enjoying the delicious cheesesteak sandwich.

Notes

  • Thin Slices, Even Cooking _ Cut the chicken breast into thin, even slices. Consistently cooked and tender slices are uniform. Keep mindful of thick slices to avoid uneven cooking.
  • Use Quality Ingredients _ keep ingredients like chicken breast and veggies fresh. Take hoagie rolls fresh to increase the quality of the recipe. Make sure to buy fresh rolls or, better yet, bake them fresh.
  • Melted Cheese _ Set aside slices of provolone cheese to melt on top of the prepared mixture. The melting cheese adds Richness and binding power.
  • Always Toast the Hoagie Rolls _ Remember to toast the hoagie rolls while melting butter in the skillet. This process improves the flavor overall and provides a beautiful crunch.
