Description

Demerara syrup is an amber-color syrup made from coarse demerara sugar and water that goes well in cocktails and is a staple in any tiki bar. Make this syrup at home with just a few ingredients and add to your favorite drinks that will take you to a tropical and exotic bar!

Demerara sugar syrup is a staple in my kitchen. Whenever I crave a demerara drink, I pour some of it into my favorite cocktail and load it with tons of ice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups of demerara sugar
  • 1 cup of water

Instructions

  1. Heat water on medium-low heat and add 1 cup of demerara sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar starts to dissolve.

Notes

  1. Remove the sweet syrup from the heat and cool completely. If you continue to boil once the sugar dissolves, the sucrose will break down to glucose and fructose, making the syrup sweeter and thinner instead of the desired rich consistency.
