Things you will need for this recipe
- Salmon Filets _ Salmon is the star of this recipe. Use wild salmon, cut, wash, and clean it thoroughly. Salmon adds a soft seafood flavor and warmth to this stew.
- Sweet Pepper _ I am using sweet peppers because their mild flavors add a colorful appearance to the stew. If you don’t like sweet peppers, you can substitute bell peppers of your favorite colors. Bell peppers also go well with this dish.
- Minced Garlic _ Garlic will add a beautiful aroma to the stew. I am using fresh garlic cloves, but you can substitute garlic powder. I recommend using fresh garlic.
- Onion _ Use yellow onion for better taste, but you can also use red onion. The red onion makes the stew darker in color.
- Tomato _ Tomatoes help create the juicy texture of the stew. Although tomato sauce may be used in its place, it will still taste the best.
- Olive Oil _ Olive oil is needed to sauté and marinate salmon. It is a healthier option, but any vegetable oil can be substituted if it is unavailable.
- Lemon Juice _ Lemon with salmon is a must. The lemon’s sourness is best with salmon. Lime juice is another alternative.
- Warm Water _ Warm water helps make the stew base. Vegetable broth can also be used in place of warm water.
- Thyme Sprig _ It will add a fantastic aroma to the stew. Dry herbs like Rosemary or oregano give a beautiful aroma.
- Seasoning _ Seasoning will add a warm flavor to the salmon. Adjust the seasoning according to your preferences. If any of the seasoning is not available, skip that seasoning.

Expert Tips
- Choose the right quality salmon. I prefer wild-caught salmon to farmed salmon. Although both are good sources of nutrients, wild salmon is much preferable. Wild salmon have more nutrients than farmed salmon.
- The longer you marinate the salmon, the better it will taste. Marinate the salmon for 30 minutes if you want the flavors to be absorbed entirely.
- Adjust the sweetness according to your preference. If you don’t like the sweetness of honey, reduce the amount of honey and ketchup. I am using honey because I like its sweetness, which is balanced well with salmon.
- Choose your favorite herb for better seasoning. It is seasoned with parsley, Dill, thyme, or other spices you like.
- Sear the salmon from both sides. First, sear the pink meat side of the salmon and then sear the skin side. If you don’t like the skin, you can remove it and then sear both sides. Skins contain good minerals, so I am using salmon with skin.
- Frozen salmon should be thawed first to cook it evenly. Cooking frozen salmon directly will not cook properly.
Storing Options
- Place the salmon stew in an airtight container and refrigerate it. It can be stored for 3-4 days.
- I don’t recommend freezing it for a long time, but if you want, you can freeze it in an airtight container for up to a month.
- Reheat the salmon stew on the stovetop on medium flame. Add water to balance the consistency. Stir it repeatedly to keep it from sticking to the skillet.
