How To Make Dragon Fruit and Mango Slush From Tropical Paradise

Dragon fruit and mango slush is a refreshing tropical blend of frozen dragon fruit, mango, and plant-based milk that helps the body endure hot weather. I like to add strawberries for a delicious twist. The best thing is that you can make it with endless variations!

I have spent one and a half years in West Palm Beach, Florida. One thing that I often make during hot weather is the Dragon fruit smoothies. Dragon fruits are ample in the local markets, and I have grown them in my garden. Usually, I have to wait for my baby dragon fruit to grow so I can make smoothies out of it, but I also buy some frozen dragon fruits from the market to make the heat tolerable with icy cold smoothies. My niece, who was around 13 years old at that time, visited her grandparents in Florida. She asks for dragon fruit and mango slush (She calls it that) every time she visits me during her 2 month stay at her grandparents’ home. Honestly, it is so creamy and healthy when we combine mangoes with dragon fruit, strawberries, and coconut milk. You can find dragon fruits in markets. Look for pitaya if you can’t find dragon fruit because it is the other name for dragon fruit.

The Benefits

Mixing mango, pitaya, coconut milk, and berries has many benefits. It helps ease digestion, heart, and skin and improves immunity because it contains many fibers, vitamins, and antioxidants. Putting it together in a smoothie is beneficial for your overall health. It is not only a healthy smoothie, but it can also help you bear heat in hot weather and keep you hydrated.

Why Will You Love This Mango Dragon Fruit Smoothie?

  • Easy to Make: This bright, pink-colored thirst quencher takes only 3 minutes to be ready.
  • Love by Kids: Kids are often annoyed with the fruits so that you can treat them with this ice cream smoothie. They will definitely find it yummy and ask for more!
  • Gluten-free and Dairy-free: The recipe calls for gluten-free and dairy-free ingredients. It can be made completely vegan by skipping honey or using maple syrup as a sweetener.
  • Tropical Smoothie: The flavor of mango, coconut milk, and dragon fruit gives the most satisfying tropical taste and takes you to eutopia.

Ingredients

  • Mango: You can use fresh or frozen mangoes. The frozen ones add a smooth, thick texture. I like to use fresh ones because I am already adding frozen pitaya for a thick texture. The mangoes should be ripe or a little soft to the touch but not overripe.
  • Dragon Fruit: It has leathery, scaly skin with a white, pink, or red interior. Many varieties are available for pitaya. I’d prefer the one with red skin and pink pulp interior. Bloody Mary and American Beauty are the best for the smoothie. I like to use frozen pieces of it because I am taking fresh mangoes. The frozen pieces provide a thick, icy, nice texture to our pitaya smoothie recipe.
  • Strawberries: I am a huge fan of strawberries, as they are a seasonal fruit in summer. You can use fresh or frozen strawberries. I freeze them for two days before making smoothies.
  • Milk: Any dairy or non-dairy option will work here. I am going for non-dairy coconut milk, but almond milk will also taste good.
  • Honey: I like to add some honey to elevate the flavor. You can skip honey or use maple syrup as well.

Instructions

Toss all the ingredients in a blender. Most recipes say to blend all the ingredients without any specification. The layering is done by adding coconut milk, followed by honey, mango, dragon fruit, and strawberries. The liquid at the base of the blender helps in the smooth blending of the ingredients.

Blend them all until well combined and no lumps remain for 40-50 seconds. Start by blending at a low speed for 10 seconds, then increase the speed and blend for 40 seconds.

Pour the dragon fruit and mango smoothie into a beautiful glass, add your favorite topping, insert a straw, and slurp this delicious drink.

Try variations and additions

dragon fruit smoothie recipes
  • You can add your favorite toppings, such as fruits, seeds (chia, pumpkin, or flax seeds), raspberries, or coconut flakes. Make smoothie bowls with your favorite toppings.
  • Add your protein powder, blueberries, bananas, pineapple, or orange juice.
  • Greek yogurt is another addition to this smoothie. I like vanilla-flavored yogurt because it has a good creamy flavor.
  • Swap whole milk, orange juice, coconut water, or almond milk for coconut milk. If you are using orange juice, I recommend not mixing any milk.
  • Coffee is the most exciting combination. Add a teaspoon of instant coffee powder to this.

Expert Tips

  • Frozen fruits are recommended because they will create a smooth, thick, silky, and velvety smoothie. If you are using fresh ones, add some ice to achieve that smoothie consistency. Try using at least one frozen fruit for a smoothie feel.
  • Take pieces of the pitaya and slices of mango for a smooth blend.
  • The time for blending the ingredients can be different depending on the power of the blender. Blending the smoothie for 50 seconds will be enough. Remember to mix the ingredients at low speed for 10 seconds and then increase the speed for 40 seconds.
  • If your smoothie is too thin or too thick, adjust the consistency according to your preference by adding coconut milk, ice cubes, or fruits. Add some frozen strawberries or pitaya if you have a runny consistency. If you have a too-thick smoothie, add a little bit of coconut milk to create balance.
  • Try avoiding too many sweeteners. I am adding a tsp of honey for extra flavors. Adding too much sweetener will fade the natural sour and sweet taste of fruits.
